The Blue Curtain
Whenever she excelled, people told her it was a fluke. Someone must've been partial, some strings must've been pulled. Because there was no way she could have done that on her own. (Logon ka kaam hai kehna, and all that.) But this flak came from close quarters, always.
The teenager was growing up, fiercely believing that she was undeserving, scared of attention and petrified of appreciation. Luckily, the stage in school had this thick blue curtain at the back. Every time she needed to be out in the front, she disappeared behind it. Back stage became her shelter.
Its been a long time since then. She's grown up. And she's still fighting a battle with that teenager. The teenager, who will still not believe that she deserves better. The teenager, who will still compromise. The teenager, who will still run away from appreciation. She still looks for the blue curtain time and again. Because no one cares for the back stage. Because there, she can just be. Because there, no one tells her she is undeserving.
